This weekend I went 'over the hills' (the Kaimai ranges) to the Waikato region to a wedding. These are a few photos I took on the way home.
Most of the photos have a tree fern in them, they are looking very pretty at the moment with their brilliant green new growth. In fact there were all the shades of green you could imagine along my drive home. The tree ferns are the variety known as the black tree fern or mamaku. They grow very tall and have a characteristic black trunk.
The silver tree fern, another common one, has a different shape and of course has the amazing silver colour on the underside of the fronds. The silver fern is one of our country's icons. I hope to have a photo of a silver fern later.
And at the wedding the bridesmaids wore green. Mamaku tree fern green.

I hope you had a wonderful time at the wedding. Is green a "traditional" colour for NZ weddings? What a wonderful symbol: of new life, and a fresh start!

Hehe St Patricks day here so green of course is the 'in' colour.
No there is no popular colour for bridesmaids - anything goes really. In fact green is probably a less used colour.
The wedding was great - amusing speeches, beautiful bride, good company.

Hi Tismee - our 'bush' is very different to your woods. Lots more undergrowth and of course a semi tropical look.
But - no beautiful bluebells, no squirrels, no foxes etc.
The road over the Kaimai ranges has bush bordering one side and is a beautiful drive, with a breathtaking view over the Waikato from the top.
Coming back home we have an equally wonderful view of the Bay of Plenty (so called because Captain Cook found, and was offered by the Maori people, plenty of food.)

It's so beautiful in NZ!!! To think, to get such lush greenery, we had to take a winter getaway in the Dominican Republic!!! *sigh* I'm telling Hubby that NZ is next on the list! ;)
