One of our volcanoes in the Central North Island is erupting. Mount Tongariro sent out rocks and an ash plume overnight. It has been dormant for 100 years.

The eruption threw rocks and spewed ash from the Te Mari craters,

Is that close to you? I guess it will depend on the wind direction etc as to the effect it has. Hope you and your family are ok x
Hi Gail - Mt Tongariro is about a four hour drive away from us. When its neighbouring mountain, Mt Ruapehu, erupted about 15 years ago we had our car covered in ash. It all depends on which way the wind is blowing.
We are too far away to ever get boulders etc landing, but the fine ash drifts hundreds of miles. Whe it lands on your car it has to be washed off very carefully, never ever brushed off as it is fine metalic shards and will scratch the paint work. And also mustn't be breathed in!
