We took a walk around the Mount last weekend and these are some photos of the Rena clean up team in action on the rocks. They have done a magnificent job, there is not much oil on the beaches at all any more. The plastic bags are full of the oil they have extracted from between the rocks and in the rock pools.
Out on the reef the salvage teams are working around the clock to pump out the
remaining oil from the tanks. The containers are hanging on the decks in various precarious positions. They will try to remove them but at the moment the oil is the main priority.
In the second photo, way out on the skyline is Motiti island on the far right, and barely discernible on the far left is the Rena.
